Why would you need this product? Well, I purchased some ceiling fans that have remotes…but I do NOT need another remote. However, fans with remotes most likely do NOT have the fan and light adjustment chains as mine did not. My application in the home had the light and fan wired to two different switches on the wall. Since I didn’t want a “dead” switch on the wall, I simply did not wire the remote receiver and had to install this switch in the wall to control the fan while the other switch controlled the light. BTW, Lutron does make a single switch that controls the light and the fan should you also not prefer a remote on your fan. This was my third switch in the specified application and they work fine. Do NOT use a dimmer switch for your fan….fan switches handle more load and are made for just this purpose.No Hum. That the best part.I purchased three of these fan switches to replace older models that had begun to wear between click settings. These LUTRON switches are very easy to install and were an easy replacement. Not to mention LUTRON is a brand very familiar to lighting and switches. I would buy these again without hesitation.I bought this control to replace an identical, existing, Lutron control that created some chaos for me. The existing one (when using the switch) must have been arcing to continuously trip an AFCI breaker. I only mention this because it was an unexpected failure of the switch. This purchase, and new switch resolved the problem. Works as expected.Product is very easy to install. I previously had a toggle (on/off) wall switch for the fan control. The fan light is on a separate wall switch. I also have a handheld wireless remote that was only connected to the fan components. The light was not connected to the remote control and can only be controlled by the wall switch (although the remote does have light capability).I didn't want to go through removing the remote wiring in the fan base so I set the new wall switch to full speed ON and then set the fan in the ON position at full speed with the remote. I then proceeded to test the installed wall switch. It works...just not flawlessly. When turning on the fan, you must adjust the wall switch to full speed and then reduce the speed from there. Increasing from off to low or medium and back doesn't work at all. The fan wall switch only works in a full ON and then reducing capacity. So low, medium, and off do funtion but only after full speed is first achieved.I have a Hampton Bay fan. I imagine that if I remove the wireless remote contol unit that is installed in the fan base that the switch may have full functionality, but I have not attempted to do so and probably won't. The switch looks good and I rarely adjust the fan so the minor inconvenience isn't really an issue. I just didn't like the ugly wall hanger the remote sits in and otherwise it's just another remote to misplace. It's better off in a drawer.Just a note...in the full ON position at the wall. The wireless remote is full functioning (up and down) but doesn't function at any other wall setting.I now have several of these controller Switches, and they all working perfectly.Lutron is the best there is .Couldn't believe I could not find an Almond or Ivory ceiling fan switch at either of the home improvement stores; only white. Amazon comes thru again and even got it next day after ordering. Easy install and glad to see the added ground wire pigtail already on there. Would have rated it a 5 star if that pigtail was 1 or 2 inches longer. Consumer can always shorten wire but it is a PITA to make longer or deal with short wires.I wished it came in variable speed other than a 3 speed and the color was a little lighter than my previous model. The switch itself works fine.Simple , reliable, good value
